n the beginning, in 1997 the festival was held in July on the vacant ground opposite the Camooweal Roadhouse on the southern side of the highway. Since 2005 the festival has been held on the Drover’s Camp site, 1km east of the town on the northern side of the highway. Each year in August, (the fourth week-end) the Drover’s Camp Association holds the Drover’s Camp Festival to showcase the people and history which have made the Outback what it is today. This is your chance to have a yarn with an old drover and hear the true stories of the trips they did. The festival begins with a luncheon on Friday for all registered drovers (invitation only). It is then followed by the street parade, Charity Mail Race, auction and country music. The following events happen during the week-end; photography competition, poet’s breakfast, Horse Races, talent award (bush poetry, song and yarn) and Bronco Branding during the weekend. Saturday evening is our concert.
