About

Each Easter Sunday the town comes alive. The festival began with the Italian Catholic tradition of blessing the fishing fleet, for a plentiful catch and a safe return. The fishing trawlers are decorated with colourful flags and are brimming with family. A large free family festival, the Ulladulla Blessing of the Fleet Festival attracts crowds of thousands, a long-held family Easter tradition for many, and in fact, third-generation princesses are entering the pageant. A popular and fun attraction on the day is the greasy pole competition. Local clubs, friends, and tourists compete in this messy slippery race to the top, the greasy pole reflects the crows nest of the boats. There is a Tug-O-War which attracts as much attention, signifying hauling the catch. Other attractions include live music, market stalls, food vans, kids zone with art, face painting, disco, dance performances, show bags, rides, portable ice rink, vintage cars, art show, Scottish tattoo, and a dramatic fireworks finale. To launch the festival, ‘A Taste of the Sea’ dining experience will be held Easter Saturday. Guests will dine on canapes and mains, of local seafood, as well as hear from some of the local producers.
